High functioning Autism - recent diagnosis aged 14 yrs

Hi,

I'm very new to any of these forums and have joined as I feel totally exhausted.  Despite a 2.5 yr struggle with my son's mainstream school - we finally gave in and have paid privately for my son to be assessed - they confirmed that my son is High Functioning Autistic.  He is bright, articulate & very good with Maths, Science & English.  He's been masking for such a long time his mainstream school simply decided that all the 'dares' he was doing to try and fit in with his contemporaries were all founded in foul play and not simply due to him being 'vulnerable' and not having a clue on how to form good, sound friendships.  The accumulation of these 'minus' points has led to him not being allowed to return to his mainstream school and has since Dec 23 been doing (school funded) online schooling.

I'm currently awaiting the outcome for my application to the Local Authority to complete an EHCP- I totally understand that we all bust our guts 'fighting' for these 'golden passports' only to find that if ever gleaned, due to such over-subscription they can sometimes be rendered almost useless....  I'm eager to hear of great success stories, please Slight smile

But in order to follow due process - If any of you have any advice on how to correctly complete the EHCP paperwork please do let me know...

Equally if any of you have a high functioning autistic child - i'd love to hear from you.  My son is a royal 'pain in the backside' - his mood swings can be overwhelming - his ability to complete a very complicated maths algebraic question yet incapable of tying his shoelaces is baffling but despite all this he is the most beautiful, wonderful, bright and brave boy I know.

I never want to change him - ever.  All I want is to surround him with people who do understand and can help educate him, reach him, equip him for adulthood and his future...

Any help, advice or indeed possible contemporaries that my son could make acquaintance with - would be so very gratefully appreciated.  THANKS, C x
