Service Dog

Hi,

My daughter is high functioning autistic and also has anxiety (which she is taking medication for). She feels that a service dog would help her when she gets sensory overload.

How do I go about finding a professional who can tell us whether she would really benefit much from this? We already have a dog and I worry that having a service dog would just add more complexity to her life and make her less keen to do things where the dog can't accompany her. She is under a psychiatrist at CAMHS but Iwhere would I find an autism specialist who can assess the benefits vs possible downsides?

If anyone has got a service dog I would appreciate hearing your wait times and what you needed to qualify for assistance.

My daughter reckons we can find a private dog trainer and source a pup but I imagine even the pups chosen by charities have a high failure rate. If the dog doesn't turn out how she imagines then she will be even more upset.

Thanks for reading
