Statement for HFASD? HELP!

Hey guys,

Ive been reading through many discussions on here about getting a statement for a HF child.

From what I have seen, a lot of people have been told that its unlickly they will get one etc etc.

Well this is my problem. The people I have spoken to 1) a specialist school for HF children and 2) a family friend with an ASD teenager, both said I need to push for a statement. I agree with this because I feel that once my son (4) starts school he will need extra help.

At the moment he "copes" okay but is really unhappy when we get home. And ofcourse at this age its all play based learning.

So my question is..... have any of you got a statment of SEN for a HF child? and if so did you have to do it yourself? do you think I should go for it even without the schools backing?

The school ofcourse said he doesnt need one etc etc etc

Thanks in advance

Vicky

  • I have a statement for my HFA daughter and am applying for one for my eldest (as yet undiagnosed) AS daughter.  I applied myself.  Statements are not about what the diagnosis is, it's about the child's needs and also not only about academics, but areas such as socialising and behavioural.  They will always fob you off and you do need to fight unfortunately.  You can apply direct to the council's SEN department.
