At our wits end

Hi I've never looked for help but now we are desperate Disappointed relieved my autistic son who is top off spectrum age 16 and 19 stone is ruling the house and going into full meltdown if he hears the word no.he shares a bedroom with his oldest brother it's always worked out well.but two weeks ago he decided he no longer wants his brother in the bedroom and whenever his brother enters the room he drags him out if his brother resists he goes into instant meltdown and starts punching his own head at full force until his brother leaves then he slowly calms down. The issue is we only have a 3 bedroom house and I have 4 kids so there's no choice but to double up with my boys.do I face off with my autistic son and hope he will just stop or will my other son spend the rest off his life on the sofa.we get no support from anyone yet this new trait my son has got into is a nightmare. Any advice would be appreciated thanks.

  • H, It sounds very difficult for you all.  If you are in the UK and a council tenant you may be entitled to a larger house so your son can have his own personal space which is what is really needed for all your mental health.  If you are not a council tenant, is there any way you could put a partition in the largest bedroom which would go some way to help?  Failing that, there are outside buildings you can purchase and put up yourself if you can to create an extra space for you son to use on his own.  It sounds like an extra space is really needed.
