Ability vs maturity

Can an autistic child’s ability be ahead of their maturity. I know a child who’s probably a year/ year and half behind in academic ability but about two and a half/ three years in maturity

Sounds pretty normal to me. And very common.

Common trait.

My spelling age, at 14, was 16. However, I always struggled with Comprehension at English. It didn't click until fifth year, when I got a C at GCSE English.

Definitely. I was years ahead of my peers at school academically but probably 5 years behind emotionally and socially.
