Dogs!

Hi folks ... it's been ages since I last posted, sorry!!

I've got a question and wonder if anyone can help me.  We're considering getting a dog for our oldest son, specifically his and not a family pet.  We've taken advice from several sources and we believe a lab would be best for him BUT they are so expensive.  Does anyone know if there are grants available for dogs?  I've heard of the family fund but don't know if anyone would consider a dog a grant-worthy expense.

Any ideas?

Thanks, GG :-)

  • I met a lady a while ago who got her dog from a charity that provides dogs that are specially trained for children with aspergers.  I am aware that these dogs have been available in the US for many years, but it is something fairly new in the UK.  If you google dogs and aspergers you may find it.

Also we inherited a dog many years ago when the children were quite young and I would definitely recommend it.  Labs are great when they are older and more settled, but does appear to take ages for them to grow out of their puppy behaviours, more so than some other breeds.

PS if you don't have any luck, let me know and I will see if I can track her down.
