Copying stimming

My seven year old has ASC and speech and language delay, he can talk in short sentences and sometimes answer short simple questions. My husband and I took him to a play centre for people with Special Needs, there was a teenage boy there who was non verbal and stimming vocally and physically my Son was copying his vocal stims,,he held his hand and said hello, The session was almost over and the boys father said right time to go. I just said be gentle as he way of communicating is often by touching people both strangers and those he knows. Is this ok for my son to do and how do I handle these situations?

Of course this is ok! Sharing stims is really cool and part of our autistic culture!

Encourage your son to socialise with other autistic and otherwise neurodivergent children as much as possible, it is really important for him to find people he can relate to and be a part of an autistic community regardless of age!
