Neuro diverse 6yr old girl

Just starting the journey with my gorgeous little girl, I’ve had my thoughts about her being neuro diverse for a while and her actions and behaviours have increased/intensified recently.  She masks at school, but is very different at home.

learning a new way to parent is where I’m at now, I have been a mum for 28 years so it’s all very different to what I’ve done before.

happy to hear any stories of girls this age who have yet to receive a diagnosis

  • I also, have a 6 yr old and she masks at school. I think from everything I have read and been told it is extremely common for girls to mask. I often find myself explaining my daughters behavior and the teacher will look at me like I am mad as they do not see it.

  • Hi Littlekicks, and T - I also have a (nearly) six year old daughter who is masking well at school. She's incredibly intellectual, thriving in her daily tasks but the only "things" the teacher has noticed is that she'll finish work independently and swiftly to take herself off to the quiet reading area, and reacts with deep emotion and shock if she's bumped into gently.. she's been sneaking a ball of blutack in to play with in the reading area as she's finding it a positive focus from the noisy atmosphere.
I don't know where to begin really, but have asked the teacher to arrange a call with their SENCO lead to discuss assessment.
