Masking 4 Year Old

Hi everyone,

I have a extremely strong suspicion my 4 year old is autistic, he seen a community paediatrician yesterday who said because he doesn't show behaviours at school, she's just putting his behaviour down to "challenging behaviour " because I have 5 children and he was a lockdown baby, I very much disagree but I have no hope of getting the school ALNCO to help me because she seems to think 4 year olds cannot mask at school.

Can anyone point me in the direction of any credible source that says otherwise? Thankyou!

  • What in particular is giving you suspicion?

Do you have other family members who are ADHD, Au or Dyslexic and can see similarities, for instance? A child who might have been more introverted and afforded their inclinations, might not easily adjust to the switch back like the young Orcas off the coast of Spain. If there doesn't appear to be much difficulty with communication, then it may not be the case. But challenging behaviour could be a myriad of external things as well, from bullying to assaulting artificial light. He might be ADHD or Dyslexic or Hyperlexic and not Autistic. We'd need much more context than competing observations and opinions :)
