Yes, I love dogs but the ones that bark all the time tip me over the edge into meltdown territory very easily, especially if it's high-pitched yapping.
I have a dog of my own, but he doesn't bark very often at all, and because he's quite big his rare barks are deeper in pitch so they don't cause me the same distress that yapping does.
They are the bane of my life and the noise can trigger a meltdown in seconds. The small yappy ones are by far the worst and I have three of them in my neighbourhood to contend with. I am able to tolerate the sound of larger dogs barking for longer.
I'm not sure what the answer is. I go to great lengths to avoid being anywhere near the noise but it's hard. I find that ear defenders and noise cancelling headphones are more effective against other types of noise but not so effective against that type of short sharp noise.
