Running off discipline and consequences

My Son has ASC and runs off sometimes, he has sensory needs but it can be a reaction to feelings anxious., .  A relatives advice was take him to a park tell him not to run off, if he does then tell him you will not take him again, is this suitable advice?

  • Are you able to agree on a safe space for him to run to if he is feeling anxious? Further strategies on supporting his anxiety might help. I wonder if saying ‘we will not be back’ may make him more anxious  

    Is it possible to use aids for his sensory needs? 

    Are you able to find specific triggers or asses the environment for when he runs away?

    He has a Sensory Diet and school and aids at home as he has under responsive vestibular and preoceptive

    senses, I think these are the cause of the running. . He has a few noise sensitivities but he has so far coped with these at least he hasn’t reacted in a way that could endanger him, he just finds somewhere safe and quiet or gets upset. A change in routine uncertainty and needling to communicate but finding it difficult make him anxious,
