Serve anxiety

Good evening,

I'm just  writing to see if anyone else has a child similar and if you have any tips , strategies,  advice.

My 9 year old son (nearly 10 ) is very anxious about lots of stuff and seeks constant reassurance , he always thinks gbe worst possible outcome of anything .

Lots are linked to him dying or someone close to him,  we haven't had a family deatybso he's not been triggers by this but more from what he hears his friends talking about pr what hes learning .

Some examples

If he gets a cut and it bleeds or if he gets a bug , cold he thinks he will die.

He asks if his food is safe to eat and not been poisoned

He asks if I his mum or dad etc will die..

Hope this makes sense .

Parents
  • I can remember as a child being worried about my parents dying. My son also worries about a lot of things and tends to think the worst. He needs constant reassuring of small things that they will be ok. I often explain things to reassure him and often it is that he has not experienced this particular thing before. He may always need a lot of reassurance, but as he grows older every positive experience helps to increase the likelihood of things being ok. It is a difficult thing because you can never totally guarantee things, so for example with people dying it is more to do with likelihoods of things going well for a long while. I see in my son with the minor things if he sees I am not concerned that helps.
