Home school help getting diagnosed

Hi Wave I have a 5 and 3 year old I'm thinking both of them may be on the spectrum (I was originally looking at my eldest however my 3year old also shows clear signs the more I've researched) 

I homeschool them both and I'm not sure how to get help and a diagnosis as the things I've seen and read it seems like I'd need to speak to teachers and to be assessed be looked at in a classroom setting which she's not in has anyone done home schooling and managed to get a diagnosis?

How do I get one and what does it involve when it's not going through a school 

  • You can contact your Health Visitor and ask about a referral for an EHCP.  Or contact the Special Education Needs team at your local authority and ask for advice. The fact they have not been formally diagnosed may be an obstacle, but your local Child Health Services (through the Health Visitor or GP) may be able to screen for ASC and make a referral.  Some Child Health Services have a "drop in" service - it would be worth checking. I suggest you contact the NAS advice line or a local SEN charity for advice on your particular situation.  Private assessments are available, but they are expensive, and the LEA may still want their own assessment.

  • Your GP can refer your children to CAMHS for an autism assessment. It doesn't have to be a referral from a school.
