Changes & catastrophizing

I self diagnose as autistic. I have children who are autistic.

How do you manage changes to your child routines? Or changes to staff who linked to your child via social work or school? 

I am really struggling with our change of social worker. I am struggling with changes to My son’s education staff and bus staff. 

Is this a usual thing that autistic parents would struggle with. I can’t even verbally explain it to these services explain or get the words to come out of my mouth in a way for it to make sense. Why I try, I see there puzzled faces as if I make no sense and they don’t understand. 

Am I catastrophizing things?

  • Not particularly, it’s just an expression of concern, at a thing that is changing. You are having trouble with change, so instead of being met with an adjustment, you are being met with rigidity, which in turn is making you FEEL extreme.

    But really it’s just that you can get a little stuck, and instead of others giving you a little reassurance, they are giving you a big shun. So you have to consider that you only need to accept an appropriate-level of responsibility for a given issue.

    You’re doing just fine, if you have a special-interest, try to distract yourself with it when you have a moment.. you’re not catastrophizing..:)
