Different levels of autism?

Hi,

I know they call it ASD, but are there different levels of autism?

my assessor said you either have it or you don't?

I can see there is like level 1-3

is that depending on what support is needed?
I get asked how severe is my autism?

thanks

  • I was diagnosed as 'High Functioning' three years ago, which I prefer to a number; however, I believe the term is now considered by many to be outdated.

I don't mind being considered 'Level 1' but do not like the term 'Aspergers'.

As I am unique, I guess I am 'Level Ben'.

Of course, we are all unique.

I'm sorry if that doesn't really answer your question.

    Ben

  • Generally only outdated stuff still references levels of autism and aspergers and whatever.

You will be aware of how much support you think you need and how many struggles you face and so you're in a much better position to get that across to people than just a "someone said I'm level 3".
