Running into the road

My son is 6 years old he has recently been diagnosed with ASD and he also has learning difficulties and very little speech.

He has started running out into the road and it really worries me that he will be hit by a car. just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and what I should do?

Running off is common in autism. You may need to use a wrist strap, or a backpack with reins. Try a PECS social story to give him visual reasons why it's a bad idea and dangerous. If all else fails and he is putting himself in danger you may need to think about a special needs buggy when out.
