Getting dressed and potty training

Hi,

My 3 year old is awaiting an autism assessment but he absolutely hates getting dressed he always makes a noise when we mention getting dressed. I’ve tried to give him more control but he hates it still and i think it’s stressful for him trying to learn a new skill. I literally feel dread before getting him dressed is there anything we can do to make this easier? The same goes for potty training we have tried siting him on the toilet but that just stresses him out and the thought of having to keep taking him to the toilet especially when he’s doing something he enjoys I just know will cause him a lot of distress am I better off waiting?
thanks

  • I'm sorry you're finding this difficult. It's all about the behaviour and I understand give your son the control but put it to him in a playful way. Make it into a game and try not to focus on him totally when doing so. This is a difficult age without any diagnosis or label.

Sing and count and try and stay calm and not overwhelm him with that you expect from him. Praise and encourage as much as you can and have fun..even when your exhausted you will see progress but it will be difficult, you will see a difference believe in yourself time is the key.

    Good luck Slight smile
