Help with 4 year old whose started school

My son has autism and has just started school and the teachers are saying that even though he appears to love it, he is screaming, shouting and pushing the other kids around.  I have asked him why but he says thats just what he does.  I think the teachers are struggling and I am not sure what to do next?

We are awaiting news on whether he has got a statement but its been over six months since we heard anything.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

  • What are the school doing to address it at the moment? There will be a reason for the behaviour even if your son can't tell you what it is. It might be a good idea for the teachers to be noting down when a certain behaviour occurs and what comes immediately before it to see if there is a pattern that he screams/pushes when he's touched or there's a sudden noise or something.
