what to do now???

Hi i have a 6 year old boy and he has just had a diagnosis of aspergers syndrome and soon to be diagnosed adhd. What i would like to ask is what i should do now with regards to getting him help in school?, what is he entitled to?Any help would be greatly appreciated as we dont know what to do. Thanks

  • Hi - is he on School Action Plus?  I would organise a meeting with the school SENCO and class teacher to discuss the best way forward.  Your post doesn't say how he is managing in school but more than likely he needs support.  A statement of special educational needs might well be the next thing to organise.  Either the school can apply or you can apply yourself as a parent.  Try having a look at the parent partnership website as they have useful information and links.

In the mean time it's important that his class teachers understand his diagnosis so they can support him in the interim period.  Hope this helps a little!

  • We are in a similar boat. My 30month old daughter is on the spectrum, not sure exactly where but has delayed language, has some stims, uninterested in peers or other children, also has echolalia, to mention a few. In the process of being diagnosed. Just joined here today.

Never thought this would even be possible as in her being autistic until a month ago. Our world crashed, At first but now gaining some perspective and hope that with support she will develop, how much is uncertain but we hope it will be good.

  • Don't know why your request has stuck like this. Someone would usually answer helpfully, just its not my area. I've flagged it to the NAS moderators
