Disability Bus Pass

Does anyone have the disability bus pass? My daughter is allowed to get the bus to school but I'm responsible for this and I'm happy with this. We will put rules in place and a social story for her about this. She has planned it all already so now I have to email the school the plan.

To pay for the pass, annually it was cost £845 or something like that which she doesn't want to pay for, I'm unable to for many reasons otherwise I would be more than happy. She found the disability bus pass where she can get the bus for free whenever and I was wondering if anyone had it and if its good. She meets the criteria for it so we will apply. Also a card from the bus company saying 'Please be patient, I am autistic' and another one saying 'Please be patient, I am non-verbal' for the times she is struggling to speak. 

If anyone has any tips to make bus travels easier that will be amazing. She'll have her weighted vest, school bag with ear defenders, Chew, sensory toys, and pecs for school. She'll have her phone, money and headphones to listen to music and I will print a schedule for her.

  • Which county are you in? The rules seem to vary from one to the other.

    Looking at the ones for Surrey for example, they want the person to have either a EHCP or certain scores on a PIP.

    We are in UK in Hampshire, in the South, right at the bottom of UK. She has both higher scores for PIP.

    1 - Who can apply:

    : have a severe learning disability, including an arrested state of development from birth.

    2 - Documents you need to provide

    : full award letter for personal independence payment (PIP) where you have been awarded at least 8 points or more for the PIP "Moving Around" or "Communicating Verbally" activities (let us know if you receive 8 points or more for other categories)

    3 - not relevant

    4 - Apply for a bus pass:

    You will need to provide

    • a recent, colour, passport sized photograph of yourself, (if applying by post print your name and date of birth on the back).
    • proof of Hampshire address (e.g. copy of your driving licence or if dated in the last 12 months a utility bill

    Upon receipt we will review your application and if successful the bus pass will be posted to you within 10 working days. We will contact you if further information is required.

    It seems straightforward thankfully
