hi im new here im struggling to get any support or help with my child and wondering if anyone can give any advice my son is 12 and is  showing traits of beingautistic but not diagnosed as no one will help me the school keeps saying that they need to monitor him for at least 2 terms the doctors said they will not refer him it has to be school ive self refered him to camhs is there anything else i can do he is struggling at school and he even gets suspended for his actions even though my sons doesnt realise or comprehend he is doing anything wrong

  • Are you able to afford a private assessment?

    The NHS waiting list is typically 2-3 years although this may be shorter for children while going private it is normaly 1-3 weeks. An adult assessment is typically £300-500 but I'm not sure about a childs version.

    Most of my dealings with assessments have been with adults so I'm not entirely sure if this is as widely covered by the personal referrals, but your GP should be able to advise on this.

    I would also ask the school why they are punishing what is apparently a disabled child for the very behaviours that the disability is causing - it sounds like the risk of being sued for failure to act may be an incentive if you want to go hard at them.
