PIP stopped no letter at witts end cant pay bills or buy food please HELP answer if you have any idea

My son diagnosed with autism Over 10 yr ago now and he received his pip monthly and I get carers allowance..for some reason pip stopped I check bank ballance it not been there last 2 months I cant phone as its easterwkend am going of my rocker they're hasling for rent the bills have just gone out am am getting deeper Into max of overdraft with what looks like no way to pay it..I have no family and am on my own and I can't tell my son as it will make him distressed. I have had no letter saying I need to resubmit any forms nothing. THE only thing I can think of is that he has a fixed amount t of yrs and that time is up..but I can't find nor have got any letters from them saying that. At this point I have my eye on a rather fat pigeon should it come to that..

  • nah fixed amount of years is income based jobseekers style universal credit.

pip should be ongoing, if its stopped it would be stopped on the back of a health review an if a reviewer determins theres nothing preventing his ability to work.

the only other way it could have stopped is if your son has done something, like accidently contacted them himself and stopped it by mistake?

id suggest its due to the holidays too but if you say its been stopped for 2 months then yeah, thats not the holidays as holidays will only delay it short term in the holiday and miss a day or 2 instead not 2 months.

Unfortunately that is not the case. I used to get DLA for my physical disability and I was awarded it for life because it is not likely to get better, but when I had to switch to PIP and go through that horrible process I was only awarded it for a few years and have to reapply every few years. This is the case for everyone, I'm not sure if there any exemptions even for something like an amputee who is not going to regrow a limb!

  • oh wow.... i thought disability was the same as it always was and just renamed. so pip is actually a new thing and they made it into a short term job seekers type of thing then? that sucks and would be stressful, hated how they handled jobseekers and universal credit so bad that i opted to just stay poor and have no money for years due to their appointments and harassments all the time. cant imagine being disabled and needing that but yet having to put up with that crap.

  • Yes, it is crap. They also changed the rules and decreased the distance a person who struggles to walk can manage in a reasonable manner, so if a person can just about manage 100 yards they only get the lower rate where they used to get the higher rate for that. It sucks because even if a person can use a bus most bus stops are further than 20 yards from one's home and where one is going, even apart from walking round shops or whatever. How would they like to be able to live with only being able to walk 100 yards until they are in pain? Is that OK?! Hardly like normal life, but to them that does not warrant being disabled enough to get the help of the higher rate which is the one used to get a motability car. But it is in line with the offensive rhetoric which sounds good to people who don't think deeply of helping those who "need it most" - but what about those who need it second most?! So a quadriplegic needs more help than a paraplegic but that hardly means a paraplegic needs no help! I hate it so much and it makes me fuming mad.

And of course the process for applying is massively stressful. Huge detailed forms but that don't ask the right questions, time limits, trying to make people attend interviews in places with stairs or having to use the lift (I can't bear lifts) I had to get my MP involved to get a home visit. So much having to telephone! And the assessors are trained to try and get people on the lowest level possible (although mine did actually help me a bit with one thing which got me one extra point which turned out to make the difference, I think she could see I warranted the benefit but their categories and points system are so arbitrary and carefully designed to try and get people just one point below the limits.

Ugh, I need to stop ranting, it's making me feel icky!
