Autism and Nursing Course?

Hi,

I am currently considering studying nursing in uni.  I don't know any autistic nurse before, so I am a bit nervous whether I will get rejected because of that.

Could anyone share your (or your children's) experience as an autistic nurse?  

Can I pass through the occupational health clearance, given that I have an EHC Plan?

  • I don't have any personal experience with this, as my own healthcare-related job is very much 'behind the scenes', but there are definitely autistic nurses out there! There's at least one on Instagram (as 'myautisticnurse') and another on Twitter (as 'anautisticnurse') discussing their experiences- I'm sure if you check out their work then it will lead you to even more autistic people working in healthcare.

    Do you have any experience with the occupational health clearance?  I heard that most jobs in the NHS require this.
    Definitely think that there should be more neurodivergent working in the health care!
