After reading the latest books from Peter Vermeulen and Simon Baron Cohen I am wondering. How come we still do not have a book on bringing up a happy autistic kid? Is is really so that autistic people are all too different from each other to formulate a general educational methodology? The scientists seem to agree in that there are common specificities, relying more on individual perceptions than on a "model of the world", discarding a rule with fewer counter examples, seeking patterns, developing logic before social skills etc. so I am wondering what would be a good educational method for autistic kids? For now I only see "therapeutic twists" to help kids coping but what would be a respectfull upbringing? As parents we are way to scared not to follow main stream advices to think we have done our best. Is leaving a kid discovering his way compromising his future? Do they really have to be guided and how? Any advice, remarks, comments highly welcome!
