Hi all ,
I am new here thought i would post as it would be nice to get some opinion .
My son is 4.5 and in the last 6 months has had his official diagnosis of ASD alongside a severe global development delay (on the assesment he is mentally 8 months old ).
We have done the EHCP plan and are relatively confident that he will get into the very good local sen school .
He is non verbal and has a high level of difficulty understanding anything ,0% sense of danger and communication is a big issue due to the lack of understanding anything .
He fixates on peppa pig and small toys (lining them up etc )
But has no intention of playing with others and is in his own little world the most of the time .
PEDs have said we should concentrate at home on the basics -toilet training (seems a long way off ),eating propery (not too bad )etc but he seems to struggle to make sense of it all like putting his shoes on for example or trying to dress himself .
My questions are -has anybody experience with their child at a similiar level at this point and how did the next few years go ?
And did having the specialist support in a sen school lead to really positive progress ?
Hes a lovely boy just feel bad for him he doesnt understand the world around him
