Unschooling

My son now about to turn 12 is reaching the limit of the school systems and although unschooling seems the only way for him, I find it scarry. There is no way I can homeschool him, I tried during the lockdown but he refuses to be taught things he does not chose himself. It is the same problem they are facing in school. He only learns on his own, mainly with apps, videos he finds on internet or observing things he likes in real life. He seems to be learning things because he uses these infos later on, to build things or to talk about them in his own way. His knowledge areas are however completely non main stream (systems, technology, buildings, chinese, bowling, golf, billard, etc..). I feel guilty not to be able to find a way to help him better and fear he will face lonely teen years and beyond. He doesn't fit anywhere, too much language delay and social specificities for regular school (especially for teenagers) but he also does not fit in the special ed schools we visited in which they expect to teach him basic things slowly and quietly sitting. He hates schools at large so he would be most happy not to go to any and only asks to travel anywhere. Has anyone gone through something similar?  He seems very intelligent to me, he is fast, sensitive, funny and very intuitive but his language is still very restricted, although he seems to understand well four to five languages. Any advice welcome!
