Local groups for teenagers

Hi, my daughter (15) was diagnosed last year and has recently decided it would be nice to meet some other autistic teenagers that she would relate to.  I can't find any local youth groups in our area, we are just outside of Scunthorpe. Does anyone know of any groups in this area? Thanks.

  • Hi Karin,

Thanks for responding, I've looked on here there's only 5 groups in the country listed!  This is shocking when you consider how many girls there are who could benefit from groups like these.

I've been speaking with our local SENDIASS who agree and are going to try to get enough 'family voices' together to go to the council and see if there is any funding available to get something set up.  We don't know any other autistic teenagers so it's hard to get her mixing.

Everyone I speak to about it agrees there needs to be something (from CAMHS to school and independent counsellors I know) but no one seems able to get it started.  These kids can get so isolated, it would be so good for them to have a safe space to meet others like them who understand them.

I just get so frustrated on her behalf, sorry rant over.

    thanks,

    Elaine.
