Hi there, my 7 year old son has a diagnosis of ASD with strong traits of PDA or ODD. Up until July last year he had always attended a mainstream school and from year 1 onwards was given a full EHCP. He coped well, a few difficulties when starting back after a half term etc but loved being in school and had made solid friendship groups. In September I made the choice to move him to a smaller school as I was heavily guided by professionals stating that they feel he wouldn't cope in the Junior part of the school. He started this new school and the placement broke down after just 3 weeks. His behaviour was a complete change to what it was at his previous school where he had never even raised a voice to a teacher or pupil. He was hitting, swearing and running away from all teachers, had his time table cut to just two hours a day to the point where I pulled him out as they said they wouldn't be able to meet need. He has since had home tutoring via the local authority which takes place in a local youth centre. He hates it, will not comply and has not done any academic work since leaving his old school. His EHCP Co ordinator and I have sent consultation requests to all schools in the borough and outside requesting a place in Specialist resource provisions for both ASD and SEMH but so far all request responses have come back saying they cannot meet need. He has even had a request turned down from a new ASD specialist school due to open in September this year.
I am curious to know whether anyone else has had this and what happens when all schools both mainstream with or without SRPs and specialists school say they can't meet need?
- Thank you
