hates school

my daughter is 11 and is on the small steps waiting list referred by the school. She shows signs in school as being autistic. They have been really good with trying to make school a better environment for her and she has the option to go into learning support away from mainstream each day and choose what lessons she would like to go to. She’s non verbal in school and hates children gets very angry when they go near her. But gets upset that no one will be her friend . she hates going to school and I struggle to get her to get out of bed on the mornings . she often goes to school late and her attendance is dropping . I’m worried that the council will start to threaten to fine me soon. Does anyone know the process and rules with council fines and struggling to get a SEN child into school ? I don’t want to pull her out and home school but was considering half homeschooling and half going to school to take pressure off my daughter ..

They can't fine you if you sign up for home schooling. I did it for 4 years. Look everyone did through lockdown, it was madatory. No you don't have to be a teacher or brilliant. Theres everything online and in books that set out for every year and you can tailor it to her needs.

When I did home schooling I did the majority of lessons, and it doesn't have to be boring, you can do projects, that encapture the ciriculum. And make sure you get out side to do some of the project however you can think of doing that. Get friends and family to help too., who ever can.

The home schooling advisor visits once a year, so not a big pressure. We never got to exams, but I'm sure there thats what the advisor can help you with.

This also doesn't have to be long term solution, just might take the pressure off, so you can rationalise everything.

Best to you and your family.
