Moving on

My 20 year son has autism, down syndrome and learning difficulties. He is due to leave college in July. He will need a very structured placement with organised daily activities. Consistency and routine are key to him managing his emotions. I want to find a residential community or group home. I do not know where to start and would appreciate advice or recommendations from those who have done this. We live in London.

Sorry to not be more helpful. There are places in residential communities where they can learn skills towards independence. There is a good one in the South West, but it can be hard to get a place. Hopefully someone will have direct experience.

I used to volunteer, in the office, at a local Café/Social Group for disabled children, and young adults. See if there is a local place similar.

Social Enterprises are good, but you may require a referral from your son's Key Worker.
