No school for my four year old

Just wondering if anyone can offer any advice. My four year old should have started reception in September but it was agreed that he would be best off in specialist school. However the local authority have told me that there are no schools with spaces and they are still looking.  I've lodged an appeal as they have failed to name a school. Is there anything else that anyone can recommend or any advice.  I'm worried my son is going to miss a whole year of school.

  • Reception isn’t a compulsory year, some kids go straight into year 1 especially if they were born in August and don’t seem ready to spend all day at school. If he is at an ofsted registered nursery or there is one that will take him they follow the same curriculum as reception. I don’t have any experience of finding non mainstream schools, hope they find something soon. We have a Sure Start children’s centre here that is especially for disabled children maybe if you have one near you they can give advice about local special schools or alternatives?
