Advising adult son on medical matters

Hello all,

Our son is an adult, and has Asperger’s, and lives in sheltered accommodation. My question is concerning advising him on a medical matter. We will of course, also get advice from the medical profession, but we would value any input from any parents or carers on here, that may have faced the same, or similar situation.

ok, here we go…. I have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer and am currently undergoing treatment. During the course of this, we are advised that any male in the immediate family over the age of 40 which he is, should have a PSA check (blood test) and if that warrants, further checks in hospital. To those that may not be aware, the further checks if they happen are somewhat invasive, and whilst we might get him to do the blood test, the further tests would probably cause a meltdown.

He is aware that I am going to several appointments, but not the real reasons. If any of you have input on how you handled such a delicate matter, it would be very much appreciated.

many thanks in advance, and kind regards

Tim
