Cars and electricity special interest

My son is a high functioning autistic child with special interest in cars, particularly designing and building cars with lego blocks. He is very technical and loves talking about cars (engines, cogs, gears...). He also loves science especially understanding theory around light, electricity and making experiments. It would be nice to find other children with similar interests, He is 9 years old.

  • It's great he's passionate about these things. One thing many of us as adults now recognise is that we have Specialised Interests - they appear 'special' because one key element about the Autistic brain is how intensely impacted we are, not able to filter like our non-autistic peers.

Depending on our added needs, we might be able to excel with the right focus, especially if given bits of wisdom occasionally about social matters, but allowed uninterrupted intensive study to excel in our passions. If you haven't seen this, he might enjoy it! www.britishscienceweek.org
