ADHD or stimming or sensory processing

Hi,

My 11 year old is high functioning ASD.

She often does things that look as though she is trying to get energy out, For example, stopping what she is  to jog laps around the kitchen island or, when  we are walking  along the street, runs back and forth, kicking her legs out occasionally as though she is shaking energy out.Sometimes at school lunchtime, she will run laps around the playing field.

Does this sound like ADHD or is it just stimming? How can I tell the difference? I am wondering whether it is worthwhile to ask for an assessment for ADHD.

Regards

  • It sounds like ADHD. Get her into classes, to the gym, to workout sports. These kids do have more energy and it is healthier for them to engage this energy. All my friends who are ADHD have 2 hour daily work out plans and it helps them immensely. One had parents who bought her this intense cardio bike and helped her into a daily routine of at least 15 minutes work out time.

In a different era, these kids would've become our skilled hunters, or scouts. If we re-think ourselves in tribal society, it can make sense of our natural being and help us shape how we live in modern society. ADHD kids can perform better in short bursts of intense situations. Keep work out clothes and trainers on hand!
