How did i end up so clueless

Hello to all you lovely people,

firstly please let me say i am brand new to this so please excuse any and all stupidity on my part Smile

ok soooooooo , my gorgeous boy is now 16, he leaves his special needs school next week and will be returning to them for post 16 in Sept, this is were my ignorance kicks in, i recieved a form to fill in for a bursury fund to help with cost towards any equipment etc that may be needed, BUT, and this is a big But, the form states he needs to be recieving benifits to be able to apply.

I am a single mum of 3 boys, working 16 hours a week and in reciept of both elemnts of the tax credits, and my son recieves DLA, but apart from that i have no other income, i have No idea who to ask about such things and am starting to worry that i simply won't be able to afford for my son to stay on at post 16 as i am really struggling as it is.

any help would be gratefully recieved

A overly stressed out bunny Frown

  • Is it the now 16 year old that receives DLA?

If so I would have thought that would be enough.

However, now he's 16 he will be able to apply for other benefits in his own right.

Which benefits to apply for depend very much on several circumstances, including, and not limited to, where you live.

The situation is further complicated by the changes to the benefits system that are starting to happen.

Your best bet is to go to a Citizens Advice Bureau and ask them - they will have all the most up-to-date information and will be able to give you the best advice, and can help you with the application process.
