Dangerous games on stairs

My Son likes to slide down stairs head first, he was sometimes go down by walking if we tell him to. Over the last few days he started coming down stairs head first with a duvet or blanket over his head. We tell him to stop and take the duvet or blanket off him but it just causes a meltdown. We can distract him from it but only for a few minutes. Any ideas what’s causing this or what we can do about it?

    Tricky one. You could either go down the route of baby gates to completely block his access or ask him to wear sunglasses and slide on his tummy with his feet first or slide down on his bottom. My 4 year old likes to walk up the stairs backwards and it’s impossible to get him to stop so now I always walk up the stairs with him and he know he needs to hold my hand when doing it.

    Hopefully you find a solution that doesn’t end up in a meltdown.
