Help with overload/meltdowns

Hi all

Im new to the forum and my 3 year old boy has recently been diagnosed with autism. At around 18 months my wife and I noticed a few things for example no eye contact, no response to name, hadnt said any words at all. So we contacted the healthcare visitor and they assessed him but said they had to refer him to a specailist and he wouldnt be dianosed intil he was 3. So very long story short recently he turned 3 he saw a specialist and he was dianosed.

We are currently going through the dla process and all of the school forms and are looking to get him the help he needs.

He has progressed he doesn't talk as such but he does say 1 or 2 words at a time and communicates alot by pointing and we have eye contact.

What I would like to ask yourselves is do any of your children have meltdowns when you take them to open spaces like a large playing field? Or my boy will be fine if we take him to soft play unless there is a queue? We can calm him down to a certain degree sometimes we take him away from the situation and that can help. It seems sometimes that things are too much for him to process and he becomes upset and overwhelmed.

Sorry for the essay. I am always trying to think what he might be thinking and would like to help him with senseory overload and keep him happy.

Many thanks for reading
