Heya.. Our 20 year old is struggling with inertia really bad atm. Stuck in loo for 7 hours.
always needs reassurance to finish and start anything. That’s normal ish. . And using emojis to communicate.has for years. More so, since traumatic hospital stay last year. Husband thinks that responding to her communicating like this, is detrimental. I think it’s her ‘native language’ i and is most comfortable using when stressed. basically. Any advice on autistic inertia. A timer won’t help btw.
And some thoughts about communication would be really welcome.
Thanks in advance. Xx
Thank you Anna. I have checked these out… some I hadn’t seen before so I do appreciate this. I’m relearning everything in the hope that I can help ease stress and anxiety all round
Hello NAS81429, thank you for sharing in the online community and I'm sorry to hear that your child is going through such a challenging time. In terms of the inertia, you may find this article useful: https://www.divergentminds.org/a-look-at-autistic-inertia/.
We have a guide on Communication that could also be helpful: https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/communication.
