Clothing issue

Hi, I'm looking for some recommendations.

My dd 12yo only likes to wear soft cotton/jersey clothes, and is now too big for the usual school jersey trousers preferred (supermarkets). I tried a few months ago buying new trousers, but once it was time to wear them, it was a definite no.  Shopping is a nightmare, takes a toll on both of us.  Leggings are fine out of school, however school policy is a no for them.

Any recommendations for shops websites would be most welcome.

Thank you.

  • Cotton chinos might be an option, if they are available in school colours. Alternatively, I have worn thin cotton pyjama bottoms with cut-down three-quarter length legs under trousers . Obviously not great in hot weather. BTW I'm autistic and have sensory problems with some fabrics.  Is it the feel of the trousers when worn, or the feel of the fabric when touched by the fingers that is the problem, or both?

If your child is diagnosed with ASC, then the school must make reasonable accommodations, which, in my view, would include some degree of flexibility on uniform for someone with sensory issues. Mentioning 'discrimination on grounds of disability' usually gets inflexible school authorities to become more accommodating.

  • I believe it is both the feel of the fabric when worn and when touched. As well as how the trousers fasten, how comfortable against the waist. I will when we move into the cooler months suggest we try the pyjama bottoms under other trousers.

The fun we've had with socks, moving from child to adult sizes in same shop you'd think nothing of it. But no slightly different texture!

The school should be okay, this will be her last year at primary, and they prefer pupils to be a bit more formal. Part of my worry is that she doesn't feel more odd one out.

    Thank you.
