Has anyone heard of this? Someone sent me this quote (below) on Facebook. Is this right?
This is apparently an amendment to Clause 65 of the Education Bill by Lord Holmes of Richmond
"SEND passport
(1) Within 6 months of the Act, the Secretary of State must publish a report setting out a strategy for the provision of a document to be carried by young people of school age with special education needs.
(2) The document must contain the details of the person's special educational needs or disabilities.
(3) The details included in the document must be provided by the person's school or educational institution."
There's no explanation I've found yet about why this is being introduced, who outside of the education system would need this information, or why a child hasn't got the right to disclose their special needs or disabilities at their own or their parents discretion.
As it stands, this sounds really worrying. Have I not understood something? Does anyone know anymore information or context that would explain this or why this needs to be introduced?
Thanks
