Stealing

My son, 19, stole money and lied about it twice. We provide everything for him, he gets money every money to spend on what he wants. We take him out, on holidays. He has a passion for aquariums. We went on an expensive trip to Las Vegas/LA.

We found out later that he had stolen the money and when confronted he lied. He has broken out trust. I have tried to explain to him that it was wrong. He has destroyed his relationship with his dad. I am not sure what to do. I want to know how to manage the situation and help him, but he also needs to learn.

  • This sounds like a tricky situation, if you are 100% sure he is lying I think it might help to try to find out what he spent the money on? Maybe it’s something he didn’t want to ask for, because it’s embarrassing or illegal? Or maybe as mentioned in another reply he’s being threatened. Has he ever lied about other things? My brother would lie about things because he didn’t think anyone could possibly see through it, but then still deny it when called out
