Stealing

My son, 19, stole money and lied about it twice. We provide everything for him, he gets money every money to spend on what he wants. We take him out, on holidays. He has a passion for aquariums. We went on an expensive trip to Las Vegas/LA.

We found out later that he had stolen the money and when confronted he lied. He has broken out trust. I have tried to explain to him that it was wrong. He has destroyed his relationship with his dad. I am not sure what to do. I want to know how to manage the situation and help him, but he also needs to learn.

  • It sounds as if he lied because he thought he would be in serious trouble for stealing. Do you think the stealing is a compulsive thing he may need psychological help with? Could he be being bullied or harassed by someone for the money and is scared of being bullied more if he tells anyone? I hope you can get to the bottom of this and get your family relationships where they should be again.
