Toileting

We are trying to toilet train our son who is nearly six, he is under assessment for ASD as he has many of the traits. He also has expressive and receptive language delay, Toilet training is a long process, he sometimes wees and poohs in the toilet but rarely just goes and sits on the toilet to wee and pooh, of his own accord.  When he has he’s used the potty to do it. How do we teach him to recognise the signs he needs the toilet.?

  • This can be part of autistic wiring. Learning to recognise our internal organs and physiological self might take a yoga or judo instructor. And due to the brain possible I taking an overload of information all at once, continually and processing at a much faster speed than we can consciously think, one may need to get a handle on this as they get older before they can begin to learn mindfulness techniques regarding physical sensation.

Most children are so preoccupied with other interests that they need reminding or a schedule. Autistic monotropism can take this a step further. https://monotropism.org
