Public affection and social cues

I am very new to all of this but have had this question running through my head for a bit now. 

as someone who does not like to show that much public display of affection I’m wondering if it’s quite normal and if this would fall into social cues category but my girlfriend who is autistic is very big on public display of affection and I don’t know how to communicate with her that people may not enjoy seeing that and that I am not that comfortable with a lot of it. 
any response would be great I really would like to help support her the best I can!

  • I would be very straightforward with her, hints are probably wasted. You have to say things in an unambiguous way. Just say that in public, certain things are acceptable, and list them, and that other things make you and onlookers uncomfortable, and list them. She will then have definite guidelines. Of course, emphasise that this does not affect how you feel towards her, or what happens in private.
