Running into roads

On Friday my five nearly six year old, got out of the car as usual after coming home from school. He decided to run all the way down the road with my Mum and I who can’t run fast, my son can outrun us. We were running after him. He was heading towards an extremely busy road when luckily a man who could run fast caught him. He’s never run off like that before. He has been watching the Gingerbread man on Youtube and does copy what he sees on tv. Today we walked  to the park which despite no wanting to hold anyones hand going down all went very well, as he went on his Dads shoulders. He had a lovely play. We got back towards home and he wanted to get off his Dads shoulders so we let him down only for him to aim to run towards that same road. He never got there this time. We keep telling him never to run in the street and he repeats it back and says ut himself. It’s just this obsession with this extremely busy and dangerous road, is terrifying.

  • Stationary exhaustion might help. I would scour the internet for videos with jump rope and possibly look into getting a trampoline. He could have pent up energy in need of exhausting (ADHD) and need more exercise than most. If you have a safe foot path to create relays for him this could help or even a gym track. Weekly swimming- anything to help him exhaust this impulse and then find videos where these are shown to be fun exercises.
