Assessment incoming

Our 14 year old daughter is starting her assessment next month and we are all a little anxious about what will be happening.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice about what i should take to the meeting, if i should take anything specific? I am making lists about lists and getting in a bit of a muddle with it all.

The company we are seeing have just said that the meeting will be about 2hrs with no further instructions so i am hoping you might be able to give me some guidance?

Hi Claire,

We do have an advice page here on the site you might want to look at about the diagnostic assessment for ASD - https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/diagnosis/diagnostic-assessment/parents-and-carers (this one is for parents and carers specifically). It should give you an idea of what to expect on the day, what to do if you don't agree with the assessment, post-diagnostic support, and you can view the clinical guidelines doctors use to make an autism diagnosis if that would be useful to know.
