Lying and sleeping on floor

One other question, does she have difficulty with balance?

That makes sense now. It is a common behaviour with her and yesterday she was struggling at school and was lying on the floor so it must be calming for her. She doesn't have difficulty with her balance. She can be clumsy and walk and bump into things. When she's distressed she may be a bit wobbly on her feet sometimes. 

I am glad my response helps. 

Also lying on the floor might be a response to threat or overwhelm so no more demands can be placed on her. For example no one at school can ask her to do anything more if she is physically unable. It may be useful to sometimes think of this as the 4 Fs response to threat.

Yes I agree it probably is calming.
