Sleep

Hi there, my 5 year old daughter is a terrible sleeper but recently has been even more unsettled in the night than normal. She will only sleep in my bed not hers as anxious but moves and fidgets constantly from about 11pm until almost time to get up when she seems to be fast asleep! I’ve changed the sheets, tried a weighted blanket etc but nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions as I’ve not slept in days!! She says she’s hot a lot too… no idea!
thanks Pray

  • Sometimes background noise like music helps. My 14 year old found it hot but didn't want the window open in case an insect came in. He now sleeps with a fan and the noise helps too.

Also the light can make it difficult to drop off so blackout curtains.

When you say you've changed the sheets I presume to cotton. My son will also notices any little bumps.

Not sure if it starts with the dropping off to sleep. If so either lying in her room or staying somewhere nearby may help her drop off.

He also has tended to notice more things when anxious.

A bath before bed can help to unwind.

Hope you find something that works as it's so hard when you are tired.

  • Thanks so much, she is okay getting to sleep but it's the fidgeting in the night. I'm wondering if it's just too warm. I'm going to change all the covers and try and cool the room more. Fingers crossed!!

  • That sounds a good idea I have to be fairly cool to get to sleep. I prefer cotton bedding. My son went through a stage where he would get up and say he couldn't sleep because the sheet was too hot underneath him so we would have to put the duvet and sheet to the window to cool it then when bed was remade he could go to sleep.
