Private diagnosis

Hi,

My daughter is 8 years old and is on the pathway for diagnosis. We are in East Kent where the waiting list is at least 2 years.
I’m think of trying to make some cutbacks as a family so we can try and save to get a private diagnosis.

Has anyone here had any experience of this and if so, how much was it and were you then accepted by the NHS from the point of diagnosis?

I’ve been looking into it and prices range from £800 (psychiatry-UK) to £3000 through other providers.

Any advice or just to hear of any experiences going down this route would be much appreciated.

Thanks

  • I went private for my daughter, and then myself. Hers was £1895, and that included both an autism and an ADHD assessment.

It included psychometric testing, observations, a couple of interviews, and many questionnaires. I think she attended the practise 3 times, and there were a couple of calls too.

My daughter decided to let her GP know, and now it’s been integrated into her medical records. They had the cheek to ask her why she didn’t use the NHS, and she said I did, and you said I didn’t have anything wrong with me Joy

A private diagnosis is valid anywhere, including for benefits and support.
