Private diagnosis

Hi,

My daughter is 8 years old and is on the pathway for diagnosis. We are in East Kent where the waiting list is at least 2 years.
I’m think of trying to make some cutbacks as a family so we can try and save to get a private diagnosis.

Has anyone here had any experience of this and if so, how much was it and were you then accepted by the NHS from the point of diagnosis?

I’ve been looking into it and prices range from £800 (psychiatry-UK) to £3000 through other providers.

Any advice or just to hear of any experiences going down this route would be much appreciated.

Thanks

  • If the clinician doing the assessment has the relevant qualifications, specialisms and is registered to practice with the relevant medical authority, it should not matter how the assessment is funded, privately or through the NHS. I had my diagnosis through Psychiatry UK by a consultant psychiatrist, who also worked for the NHS, and when the diagnosis arrived at my GP I was prescribed the recommended drugs (for depression linked to my autism) immediately.
